De acordo com o respeitado jornal diário USA Today, o de maior circulação do país, a piscina e a jacuzzi do resort chileno estão entre as 10 mais bonitas do mundo.

Portillo foi a única estação de esqui do Hemisfério Sul a ser citada na eleição. As outras são dos Estados Unidos (Aspen e Gleenwood Springs, ambas no Colorado, Lake Tahoe, na Califórnia, Homestead, na Virgínia, e Snowshoe, em West Virginia), Suíça (Zermatt e Adelbodeen), Itália (Cortina D’Ampezzo) e Canadá (Panorama, em British Columbia).
