The car bounced along traversing the steep mountain side road as we wound our way up, over and down the lush green landscape of the mountain jungle. Wide-eyed, the six of us took in the exotic sites around every bend. The majestic waterfalls cascading thousands of feet were timeless expressions of grace and strength. Our driver excitedly pointed to the overhead rope bridges swinging in the wind that were designed for monkeys to navigate high above the stream of travelers escaping the mega metropolis of Sao Paulo and destined for the island of Ilhabela.
The luxury haven of the DPNY Beach Hotel & Spa is nestled into the flourishing tropical landscape and is perched on the edge of a white and purple sand beach. Each suite had it’s own personality. The red and animal print studio suited our 20-year olds idea of the perfect luxury bachelor pad crowned by the large king size bed draped in zebra fabric and sheers to keep the mosquitos at bay. The three girls shared a poolside beach bungalow that had a whirlpool enclave adorned with colorful tiles that were reminiscent of a roman bath. From dawn to dusk the vistas from the Imperial Suite were breathtaking. Inside the mix of modern and native design elements brought together a whimsical and trendy beach vibe with brightly colored turquoise walls and luxury amenities. I especially loved the combination of sleek and organic with the white marble walled bathroom and it’s rustic thatched wood roof.
As the first full day begun on Ilhabela, we woke to a glorious sunrise, a smiling staff and decadent breakfast buffet filled with made to order omelets, tropical fruits and the traditional Brazilian cheese breads (come to find out, they are gluten free!) We discovered that the DPNY Beach Hotel has a beach layout that other hotels should take note and mimic. The unique, three tiered seating configuration pampers guests no matter what they desire for their beach day, be it lounging on a full size bed, low lying lounge chairs or table service. This setup is a brilliant design allowing each person to enjoy their style of beach relaxation.
Each evening it was a majestic spectacle of red, orange, purple and blue streaking the sky as the sun made it’s descent behind the mountains of the distant shore while skim boarders danced their boards across the water, launching into the crashing waves and hurtling through the air becoming one with the sea and sky.
This peaceful oasis was hard to leave as we would meander back to our bungalows. But, we knew that culinary delights were awaiting us under the starry night-lights twinkling from the covered roof of the outdoor restaurant lined in an array of colorful surfboards. The ethereal glow, decadent feast and palm trees waving in the soft breeze while listening to the crash of the ocean waves made for many a magical night that even kept the teenagers wanting to linger for hours over dinner & dessert.
As our car bobbed along on the quintessential ferry to the mainland, my thoughts drifted back to the oasis at the DPNY Beach Hotel and Spa that so effortlessly combines chic luxury with a laidback surfer vibe. This combination creates the ultimate five-star pampering.

O carro parou ao longo da estrada lateral da ilha enquanto eu e minha família apreciávamos a exuberante paisagem verde da selva da montanha. De olhos arregalados, nós seis observamos os locais exóticos em cada curva como as majestosas cachoeiras. Nosso motorista apontou animadamente para as pontes de corda suspensas ao vento que foram projetadas para os macacos navegarem bem acima do fluxo de viajantes que escapam da mega metrópole de São Paulo e se destinam à Ilhabela.
O refúgio de luxo do DPNY Beach Hotel & Spa está situado na paisagem tropical florescente à beira de uma praia de areia branca e roxa. Cada suíte tem sua própria personalidade. O estúdio de estampas vermelho selvagem combina com a idéia de 20 anos de um apartamento de luxo perfeito, coroado por uma grande cama king-size envolta em tecido de zebra e tiras para manter os mosquitos à distância. As três garotas dividiam um bangalô à beira da piscina que tem uma banheira de hidromassagem adornada com azulejos coloridos que lembra um banho romano. Do amanhecer ao anoitecer, as vistas da Suíte Imperial são de tirar o fôlego. No interior temos uma mistura de elementos de design moderno e com uma vibe de praia extravagante e com paredes de turquesa coloridas e diversas amenidades de luxo. Eu particularmente adorei a combinação do elegante e orgânico com o banheiro murado de mármore branco e seu rústico telhado de madeira.
Como o primeiro dia inteiro começou em Ilhabela, acordamos com um nascer do sol incrível, uma equipe sorridente e um buffet de café da manhã com omeletes feitos na hora, frutas tropicais e os tradicionais pães de queijo brasileiros (venha descobrir, eles são sem glúten!) Descobrimos que o DPNY Beach Hotel tem um layout de praia que outros hotéis devem tomar nota e imitar. A configuração exclusiva em três níveis mima os hóspedes, não importa o que eles desejem para o seu dia de praia, seja descansando em uma cama grande, espreguiçadeiras baixas ou serviço de mesa. Esta configuração é um design brilhante que permite a cada pessoa desfrutar do seu estilo de relaxamento na praia.
Todas as noites era um espetáculo majestoso de vermelho, laranja, roxo e azul riscando o céu enquanto o sol descia atrás das montanhas enquanto alguns hóspedes se jogavam nas ondas.
Era duro partir deste oásis para nossos bangalôs, mas sabíamos que as delícias culinárias estavam nos aguardando sob as luzes noturnas estreladas que brilhavam no teto coberto do restaurante ao ar livre, alinhado em uma variedade de pranchas coloridas. O brilho etéreo, o banquete e as palmeiras balançando na brisa suave enquanto ouvimos o barulho das ondas do mar fizeram muitas noites mágicas que até mesmo mantinham os adolescentes querendo ficar por horas durante o jantar e a sobremesa.
Enquanto o nosso carro balançava na balsa para o continente, meus pensamentos voltaram ao oásis no DPNY Beach Hotel and Spa, que combina sem esforço o luxo com uma atmosfera descontraída de surfista. Esta combinação cria o contexto de um hotel cinco estrelas.
